Moscow welcomes Trump's stance and his remarks about the need to do everything possible to prevent a third world war, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated.
Following a meeting of Russia's Security Council, Vladimir Putin congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory and emphasized the importance of achieving long-term peace in Ukraine.
"The pre-election period was not easy for Trump in any sense. He showed courage and achieved a convincing victory in the elections," said Vladimir Putin.
According to the Russian President, Moscow is open to dialogue with the new U.S. administration regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
"The goal of resolving the conflict in Ukraine should not be a short-term truce, but lasting peace. Not some kind of pause for regrouping and rearming to continue the conflict later, but genuine long-term peace, based on respecting the legitimate interests of all the peoples and nations living in this region.
The main thing is to eliminate the root causes of the crisis, which Moscow has spoken about many times. Of course, we will fight for Russia's interests, for the interests of the Russian people. This, in fact, is the purpose and meaning of conducting the special military operation," said Vladimir Putin.
